Kirkhill 8

The Kirkhill 8 returns for its fifth edition, offering runners from all walks of experience an unforgettable challenge. Set against the rugged backdrop of Kirkhill Forest at coordinates 57°12'45.5"N 2°14'15.7"W, this race features a single-loop trail that stretches over 4.3 miles, inviting participants to traverse it as many times as possible within an eight-hour window.
Registration opens early on the morning of May 22, 2027, with check-in between 6:30 and 7:30 AM. Runners must be at least 18 years old by race day. The event is strictly pre-entry; no refunds or deferrals will be offered once entries close on April 30, 2027.
The Kirkhill 8 emphasizes self-sufficiency with a strict ban on external support and running poles. Participants must carry essential safety gear at all times: waterproof jacket and trousers, hat, gloves, whistle, and foil blanket. No kit means no race—a hard but necessary rule to ensure everyone's safety in Scotland’s unpredictable May weather.
The course is entirely trail-based, winding through the forest with its lush greens and diverse terrain. Runners can expect a mix of climbs and descents, making each loop unique yet challenging. A drop/kit bag facility will be available at the start/finish area where water refills are provided without single-use cups to minimize waste.
The race is inclusive, welcoming runners regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. It’s an event that celebrates diversity and camaraderie among competitors pushing their limits in a beautiful yet demanding setting.
Ideal for both beginners looking to test themselves on trails and seasoned ultrarunners aiming for longer distances like 20 miles, 50k, or even 40-50 miles over the course of eight hours. The Kirkhill 8 promises an authentic Scottish experience that tests your endurance while immersing you in nature’s splendor.
