About the Event

Honoring Tradition: The John Keeshan Memorial Montauk Turkey Trot Returns on November 26, 2026
The annual John Keeshan Memorial Montauk Turkey Trot is set to take place this year on Saturday, November 26, with a start time of 10 AM. This cherished event commemorates the Thanksgiving morning run from 1976 when local resident and runner John Keeshan gathered friends for an invigorating jog around Montauk's scenic landscape.
The race route follows the historic path laid out by Keeshan more than four decades ago, covering a distance of 22 miles in total – starting at the Village Green and extending to the iconic Montauk Lighthouse before returning. Participants will experience breathtaking views as they traverse through charming neighborhoods and along picturesque coastal paths.
Registration is highly recommended for this popular event with a limited capacity of 1,100 runners. The first 600 participants to pick up their bibs on race day will receive commemorative T-shirts.
The atmosphere at the start line promises excitement as racers gather in the heart of Montauk's Village Green ready to embark on this challenging yet rewarding journey. With its rich history and scenic beauty, the John Keeshan Memorial Turkey Trot offers a unique blend of athletic competition and community spirit.
Please note that dogs are not permitted on race morning for safety reasons. Virtual participation options will also be available for those who wish to support from afar or cannot join in person but still want to contribute to this meaningful tradition.
This event celebrates the legacy of John Keeshan, fostering a sense of camaraderie and appreciation for Montauk's natural beauty among runners and spectators alike. Join us as we honor the past while looking forward to an exciting future at the 2026 Turkey Trot in Montauk!
