J. Barry Dwyer Red Devil Turkey Trot

The J. Barry Dwyer Red Devil Turkey Trot is an annual 5k run that honors the legacy of J. Barry Dwyer, a cherished figure in Chelsea's high school track and cross-country programs. Known for his leadership in the boys' cross-country program during the 1970s and 1980s, which earned numerous Commonwealth Athletic Conference championships, Dwyer left an indelible mark on Chelsea High School sports.
Participants will start and finish at the Chelsea Memorial Stadium track, navigating a USATF-certified course with chip timing provided by Yankee Timing. The route is mostly flat but includes a mild hill that runners must conquer twice during their journey out and back to the stadium.
The race begins on Everett Avenue before turning left onto Carter Street and continuing down Beech Street. After making another turn, runners head south along Spruce Street until they reach Washington Street, where the course continues through Cary Avenue and Broadway, eventually leading them to Webster Avenue. From there, participants make their way back via Clarke Avenue and Cary Avenue, retracing their steps to complete the challenging yet rewarding 5k loop.
Proceeds from this event support the J. Barry Dwyer Memorial Scholarship, awarded annually to a Chelsea High School student-athlete who embodies excellence in sport, character, and leadership within cross-country, track, and field programs. Additionally, funds raised go towards sustaining the school's Track, Field, and Cross-Country programs.
Runners are invited to experience this tribute to Dwyer’s enduring influence on both sportsmanship and community spirit at Chelsea High School.
