Howard Aslinger Endurance Run

The Howard L. Aslinger Memorial Scholarship Foundation honors the legacy of Howard L. Aslinger, an inspiring individual who dedicated his life to helping others despite facing significant challenges himself. Born on June 20, 1940, and passing away on June 16, 2009, Howard contracted polio at age 11 but never let it deter him from living a full and active life. He was an advocate for education and sports, founding the Cape Area Youth Soccer Association (CAYSA) and promoting soccer programs in Southeast Missouri high schools.
The foundation raises funds through various events to provide scholarships for individuals with disabilities seeking higher education or vocational training. The proceeds from this endurance run will support those who face barriers to educational opportunities, just as Howard did during his youth.
On March 12, 2027, runners of all abilities are invited to participate in a day filled with camaraderie and determination at Arena Park. The event features two main races: a 24-hour endurance run starting Friday evening at 7 p.m., concluding the following Saturday at 7 p.m.; and a 12-hour race that begins either night or morning, depending on participants' preference.
The course is designed to be accessible for all runners, with a flat loop around Arena Park. Participants will enjoy well-lit paths under the stars during nighttime hours, while daytime runs offer scenic views of the park's lush landscape and vibrant community atmosphere.
Aid stations are strategically placed throughout the route, providing essential hydration and nutrition including sports drinks, water, pretzels, bananas, potato chips, cookies, and boiled potatoes. The event also offers a pre-race briefing to ensure all participants understand race rules and logistics before they begin their journey. A post-race meal and entertainment round out the day's activities.
Runners can choose from various divisions including open male/female categories, masters, senior, grand master, and wheelchair/disability divisions. Awards will be presented to division winners at the conclusion of each event, celebrating the spirit and perseverance that Howard L. Aslinger embodied throughout his life.
