Highland Fling Ultramarathon

Join us for the 19th edition of the Highland Fling Race, set to take place on September 18, 2027. This trail ultramarathon follows Scotland's iconic West Highland Way through the breathtaking Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park, stretching from Milngavie near Glasgow all the way to Tyndrum in the Highlands over a distance of 53 miles (85 km).
The race is designed with inclusivity and equality at its core. Entries are initially allocated by gender—500 places each for women and men—with an additional option for nonbinary participants. Should any category sell out, waiting lists will be established to ensure fairness.
To enter this challenging event, runners must have completed a marathon or ultramarathon after January 1st, 2025, with specific time requirements for road marathons under five hours and no restrictions on trail events. Participants who do not meet these criteria by July 1st, 2027, may still be considered at the discretion of organizers.
The race supports local sustainability efforts through its partnership with Strathfillan Community Development Trust, aiming to benefit communities in Tyndrum, Crianlarich, and beyond. The event is committed to inclusivity, offering payment plans for those on low income and fully subsidized places for trans or nonbinary runners via LEAP Sports Scotland.
Runners will experience the rugged beauty of Scottish landscapes as they navigate through forests, over hills, and beside lochs, making this a memorable adventure for trail enthusiasts. The Highland Fling Race not only challenges athletes but also celebrates diversity and promotes safe participation for all.
