On Saturday, March 20, 2027, the annual HOT OIL 5K and 1 mile run/walk will take place at Colony Grill in downtown St. Petersburg, celebrating its rich tradition of supporting first responders through a family-friendly event that combines community spirit with athletic competition. The race begins promptly at 8:00 am from Colony Grill’s historic location on Central Avenue. Participants can look forward to an enjoyable and relatively flat course that winds along the scenic waterfront before heading back towards Heroes Memorials, providing runners and walkers alike with stunning views of St. Petersburg's vibrant downtown area. The event is designed for individuals of all skill levels, making it a great opportunity for both seasoned athletes and those looking for their first race experience. The post-race celebration offers an array of amenities to thank participants for their support. Each finisher receives a commemorative medal celebrating the bravery and dedication of St. Petersburg's police officers and firefighters. The event also features live music, local beer samples, and Colony Grill’s famous "hot oil" bar-style pizza at a street party right outside the restaurant. Colony Grill has been an integral part of this annual tradition since 2011 when it partnered with Heroes of St. Pete Police and Fire Rescue to honor first responders who have lost their lives in service and provide financial assistance during times of crisis for police officers, firefighters, and their families. The restaurant’s commitment extends beyond the race day; its Wall of Heroes showcases framed portraits of veterans and first responders at all locations. Registration includes a specially designed T-shirt commemorating this year's event as well as access to timed results from an accurate run course. Participants are encouraged to bring family members along for what promises to be a memorable morning in support of those who keep our communities safe every day. For more information or assistance with accessibility needs, please contact the event planner at (727) 893-4821 or reach out to the City of St. Petersburg Community Affairs Division at (727) 893-7345 or (727) 892-5259 for TDD/TTY services. Join us on March 20, 2027, and be a part of an event that honors service from start to finish.
