The Inaugural Gregory Burnett, Sr. Memorial 5K & Family Fun Run is more than a race—it is a celebration of legacy, community, health, fellowship, and purpose.

Join us on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at beautiful Calf Pasture Beach for an unforgettable day of inspiration, unity, and impact as runners, walkers, families, community leaders, and supporters come together to honor the life and memory of Gregory D. Burnett, Sr.

This family-friendly event kicks off with the Legacy Mile/Family Fun Run at 9:00 AM, followed by the 5K on a certified course at 9:30 AM.

Hosted by the ANu Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and Alpha Nu Chapter, an unincorporated association of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., this event seeks to promote wellness, strengthen community connections, and support educational scholarship initiatives that Greg cherished—continuing his legacy of service, fellowship, and commitment to others.

Participants of all ages and fitness levels are invited to take part in:

• The Certified 5K Race, or
• The Legacy Mile/Family Fun Run

Whether you are running in remembrance of Greg, walking for health with your family, participating to support the scholarship fundraising effort, or simply enjoying a run or walk along the scenic shoreline of Long Island Sound, your participation helps continue a legacy rooted in service, encouragement, leadership, fellowship, and love for others.

Most importantly, this is a scholarship fundraising event, and net proceeds will benefit the A-Nu Foundation’s scholarship programs, helping to extend Greg’s legacy by investing in the education and future of deserving students.

5K Age Group Medals:

12 and under, 13 - 18, 19 - 29, 30 - 39, 40 - 49, 50 - 59, 60 - 69, 70 - 79, 80+.  Top three male and female in each category receives a medal.

Trophies:

Top Three Fundraising Groups (Teams who raise the most money for the scholarship fund will receive a trophy).

Special recognition will also be given to organizations, teams, businesses, schools, churches, and community groups that raise the most funds for the event’s scholarship initiatives.

About Gregory D. Burnett, Sr.

Gregory D. Bumett, Sr. was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor, public servant, and community advocate whose life exemplified service, leadership, and uplift.  A graduate of Syracuse University and a distinguished executive at IBM Corporation, Greg devoted more than four decades to serving others through civic engagement, professional excellence, and community leadership.

In Norwalk, he served as an elected City Council Member, Democratic Majority Leader, Chairman of the Finance and Claims Committee, Chairman of the Board of Estimate and Taxation, and previously on the Board of Education, Board of Health, and Facilities Construction Committee. His dedication to improving the lives of others extended through youth mentorship programs, charitable organizations, educational initiatives, and countless volunteer efforts throughout the city.

A Life Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for more than 42 years, Greg served with distinction at the chapter, district, and international levels, earning numerous honors, including the fraternity's prestigious International Superior Service Award. Whether mentoring young people, advocating for his community, supporting educational opportunities, or sharing laughter with family and friends, Greg left an indelible mark
on all who knew him.

The Gregory D. Burnett, Sr. Memorial 5K & Family Fun Run was established to honor his enduring legacy of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift while creating opportunities for future generations through scholarship and community engagement.

"Greg lived a life centered on service, leadership, and love for others," said event organizers. "Whether he was mentoring youth, serving the City of Norwalk, supporting educational initiatives, or simply bringing joy to those around him, he made a lasting impact. This event is our way of celebrating his legacy while investing in the future of our community.
