Green Lakes Endurance Runs · Celebrating 20 Years!
About the Event
Green Lake Endurance Run (GLER) returns for its 20th anniversary edition on August 21, 2027. This beloved race offers runners three fixed distances and an endurance challenge that cater to various levels of experience and ambition. The GLER Race HQ is situated at the picturesque Tulip Hill Picnic Area in Green Lake Park's northeast corner, providing a scenic starting point for all events. The course itself features diverse terrain, with well-maintained singletrack trails, double-track paths, grassy stretches, dirt roads, and short sections of asphalt. Each lap of the 100K, 50K, and 25K races is an approximately eight-mile loop that takes runners through varied landscapes. The course includes two steep ascents and one long descent, traversing shaded upland forest trails with occasional roots, ruts, and stones. Runners will also enjoy the upper meadows dubbed "the Serengeti," offering over three miles of open trail per lap. These grassy areas can be particularly challenging on warm sunny days. The lower lake section features mostly flat terrain under a canopy of trees, providing welcome shade during summer runs. The course is designed to allow for quick running without technical hiking challenges, making it appealing to both experienced and novice runners alike. Participants in the 100K race will complete eight laps from start to finish by 9:00 PM on August 21st, while those competing in the 50K or 25K events must conclude their runs within four and two loops respectively. To ensure safety during later hours of darkness, runners starting their final loop after 6:30 PM are required to carry a light. For endurance enthusiasts, the GLER GaleForce 12 Hour Race offers an opportunity for continuous running around Green Lake and Round Lake on a clockwise three-mile circuit from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Racers will loop through the shaded lower lake trails as many times as possible during this timeframe. Amenities include t-shirts for pre-registered runners who sign up at least two weeks before race day, finisher medals and commemorative items such as coffee cups or pint glasses upon completion of any distance, plus bumper stickers to commemorate your achievement.
