About the Event

JUMP from a steamship into Muskoka Bay. That's the start. The Gravenhurst Triathlon and Duathlon returns on June 13–14, 2026, hosted at the Muskoka Wharf Sports Fields. Olympic and Sprint triathlons, plus International and Sprint duathlons. The event sells out every year — limited by the capacity of the Muskoka Steamships. One of the most sought‑after events in the MultiSport Canada Triathlon Series for over a decade.

Olympic Triathlon
Saturday, June 13 / Sunday, June 14 (check schedule) • The classic 1.5 km swim / 40 km bike / 10 km run

Sprint Triathlon
750 m swim / 20 km bike / 5 km run • Ideal for first‑timers and fast racers

International Duathlon
10 km run / 40 km bike / 5 km run • For those who prefer to stay dry

Sprint Duathlon
5 km run / 20 km bike / 2.5 km run • Short, sharp, accessible

The Iconic JUMP Start:

Swim start from the Muskoka Steamships (historic steamships that cruise Lake Muskoka)
Runners jump from the vessel into the water — a unique, adrenaline‑pumping beginning
Limited capacity: only as many swimmers as the steamship can hold. Register early.

Location & Venue:

Muskoka Wharf Sports Fields, Gravenhurst, Ontario (cottage country, 1.5 hours north of Toronto)
Large grass transition area — plenty of space for racks, bags, and team tents
Quieter roads in June — less cottage traffic than peak summer months
Scenic bike course along Lake Muskoka, rolling hills, forested sections
Run course on paved paths and quiet residential streets, finishing at the wharf

Two‑Day Format:

Saturday, June 13 — some distances (check event schedule for exact assignment)
Sunday, June 14 — remaining distances
This allows athletes to race on their preferred day or even race both days
Start times typically 8:00 AM for most categories

What's Included:

Chip timing (swim, bike, run splits)
Finisher medal for all athletes who cross the line
Event t‑shirt (subject to availability — early registration recommended)
Post‑race food (typically pizza, fruit, snacks, water, sports drink)
Medical support on site
Secure transition area
Awards for top 3 overall male/female and age group winners (check specific categories)

Relay Teams:

Olympic and Sprint triathlons and duathlons have relay options
Team captain registers and pays the team fee
Team members join for free using a password provided by the captain

Logistics:

Bib pickup: race morning starting at 6:30 AM at Muskoka Wharf Sports Fields
Parking available at the wharf and surrounding lots (arrive early — limited spaces)
Public transport: not practical — drive or carpool. Gravenhurst is a car‑dependent town.
Accommodation: book months in advance. Muskoka is a popular tourist destination; hotels and cottages fill quickly for June weekends.
Toilets and changing rooms at the sports fields
No dogs allowed in transition or on course (service animals excepted)
Wetsuit legal swim (water temperature typically 18–22°C in mid‑June — check race day conditions)

Spectator Experience:

Registration, food, awards, and finish line all close to each other — easy to watch multiple segments
Spectators can stand on the Muskoka Wharf to see the steamship jump start, then walk to the finish line
Bike course passes through the wharf area multiple times (depending on distance) — multiple viewing opportunities

About Gravenhurst

Gravenhurst is a town of about 12,000 people (2016) in the Muskoka region of Ontario. Norman Bethune, the Canadian doctor who became famous in China for battlefield surgery, was born here, and is the town's most famous former citizen. The town refers to itself as 'The Gateway to Muskoka' as is indicated on a large archway in the south-end of town. The town is a drawing point for summer cottage season. Many cottagers in the Muskokas use Gravenhurst for groceries and supplies and visit the town once or twice a week during cottage season.
