Grand Valley Backyard

Western Colorado's Grand Valley Backyard Ultra offers runners an exhilarating endurance challenge on the scenic 18 Road trail system, known for its diverse terrain and stunning vistas. The race follows the traditional Backyard Ultra format: every hour, all remaining participants start a fresh loop of 4.17 miles together, continuing until only one runner remains standing.
The course itself is mostly singletrack with some doubletrack sections, featuring approximately 500 feet of elevation gain per lap, predominantly in the first half. The trail conditions are entirely runnable and non-technical, making it both challenging yet accessible for all levels of endurance runners. Each loop offers a mix of rolling hills and flat stretches, providing an engaging test of stamina.
Race day amenities include water stations and Proxima C Endurance Fuel provided throughout the course to help participants fuel up between loops. Runners are encouraged to bring additional food, nutrition, and supplies as needed for their personal pacing strategies. The race venue offers ample space near the start/finish area for runners to set up a crew station if desired, with guidelines in place to ensure safety and compliance.
Participants who complete at least one loop will receive a custom finisher buckle recognizing their distance achievement along with high-quality tri-blend race shirts and Ultraverse stickers. This event promises not only an unforgettable running experience but also the camaraderie of fellow endurance enthusiasts pushing through the night under the stars.
