Saturn Running invites you to the GNR & Time Turner event, set for August 29, 2027. This annual gathering offers an opportunity to clock some miles before The Great North Run or simply enjoy running along Durham's picturesque River Wear. The race starts at 9:30 AM from the Durham Amateur Rowing Club in Old Elvet and features a flexible format that allows runners to set their own distance within a seven-hour window. Participants can choose between laps of either 7km (4.37 miles) or, depending on course conditions, 5.28 miles, with options for shorter distances as well. The event is designed to accommodate all abilities and welcomes walkers too. The scenic route offers stunning views of the Durham Cathedral, providing runners with a beautiful backdrop while they lace up their shoes. Course markers are clearly placed along the trail, making navigation easy even for first-time participants. Membership benefits include discounted entry fees—a £10 reduction—and guaranteed entry status. Additionally, members receive mini-medal pins at every event attended, adding to the collection of themed medals awarded upon completion of a 3km distance or more. For those who complete half-marathon distances and beyond, there are special achievement pins available. A generous goody bag awaits all finishers, offering a selection of treats including vegan options for dietary preferences. The aid station at the start/finish line provides an array of refreshments such as drinks, snacks like crisps and fruit, ensuring participants stay energized throughout their run or walk. Race day facilities include toilets and changing areas located near race HQ. Bag drop is available but unstaffed; runners are advised to keep valuables secure elsewhere due to the lack of supervision. Free parking in city center locations and nearby streets is recommended as parking at the rowing club is not permitted for participants. Detailed instructions will be sent out via email leading up to the event, covering all race day logistics including number pick-up procedures on-site prior to start time. Join us this August 29th for a memorable run along Durham's River Wear and celebrate your achievements with fellow runners in one of Saturn Running’s most inclusive events yet. Toilets and changing facilities are available at the venue, while bag drop is offered near the start/finish area but left unattended. Participants should be mindful that items left here will not be watched continuously or secured by staff. Headphones can be used during the race for personal motivation, though runners are asked to remain considerate of other footpath users when using public trails. Car parking options include pay-and-display spaces in central Durham and nearby streets. Runners should refrain from parking at the rowing club car park.
