Galena Sky Trail Races

Set against the stunning backdrop of Chestnut Mountain Resort, this unique endurance race offers runners an unforgettable challenge and celebration. On May 15, 2027, participants will take to the trails for either an 8-hour or a 4-hour timed loop course, with majestic views of the Mississippi River stretching across Iowa and Wisconsin.
The loop courses wind through the same scenic hills used for winter skiing, offering runnable yet challenging terrain. Runners can complete as many loops as they wish within their chosen time frame, aiming to cover the most distance possible. The 2.91-mile long-loop course starts at 8 am, while a shorter .6-mile loop opens at noon and must be completed by 4 pm for it to count toward total mileage.
A distinctive feature of this event is its lively atmosphere: runners return periodically to a DJ-fueled party zone where they can refuel with snacks and drinks. The race culminates in an evening feast, featuring a taco bar prepared by the resort's acclaimed restaurant amidst one of Galena’s breathtaking sunsets over the Mississippi.
Participants are encouraged to embrace the Nordic Warrior theme, donning elaborate costumes for a chance at winning special prizes. Heavy metal-themed finisher medals await every runner, marking their achievement as they celebrate with fellow racers and spectators in this vibrant community event.
