Runners will pass through historical sites such as the ruins of Moriyama Castle and the Manyo Botanical Garden, following trails once immortalized in the poetry of Otomo no Yakamochi. Mid-May typically brings fresh spring temperatures of around 18°C to 20°C in Toyama.
Logistics and AmenitiesParticipants can enjoy a "full-package" experience designed to promote local tourism and relaxation: Check-in: No items are mailed in advance; participants present their digital tickets at the stadium on race morning. Participant Gifts: Every runner receives an original T-shirt, a local public bath (sento) voucher, and a serving of fruit punch at the finish. Parking: Limited parking is available at the stadium (350 spaces) and Polytech Center Toyama (300 spaces), with a free shuttle running every 30 minutes from the latter. After-Party: A dedicated "After-Beer Party" is held in Takaoka City for athletes and staff to socialize post-race.
Registration and ParticipationEntries are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. For the 20km and 14km divisions, participant caps are 400 and 200, respectively. Furusato Nozei: High-priority registration is available via the Takaoka City "Furusato Nozei" (Hometown Tax) program starting March 5, 2026. This is restricted to residents living outside Takaoka City. Qualifications: The 20km division is open to high school students and older, while the 14km division accepts middle school students and older. The Kids' Race is divided into Lower (Grades 1–3) and Upper (Grades 4–6) elementary school categories.
Mission and OrganizationManaged by the Nijoyama Trail Run Executive Committee, the event aims to preserve Mt. Nijo for future generations while rediscovering its appeal as a tourist resource. The race is supported by numerous local neighborhood associations and specialized running clubs, emphasizing a community-wide effort to maintain the trails and promote "Manyo" culture through endurance sports.
