Warrior 100 is an inspiring winter endurance race set to take place on February 26, organized by Froggy Mountain Adventures. This challenging 100-mile trek serves as a fundraiser for the veterans organization #22toomany, which focuses on raising awareness about military and veteran suicide. The event honors Rosie of Froggy Mt, whose son Dexter—a US Marine—lost his battle with mental health in February 2018. Since then, she has dedicated herself to running over one hundred marathons annually to bring attention to this critical issue. With its unique timing and location, Warrior 100 aims to attract a community of runners willing to push their limits for an important cause. This year’s race will take place on private property in Galax, Virginia, featuring rugged terrain with approximately 50,000 feet of elevation gain over the course. The route includes new trails that wind through deer paths and switchbacks, offering a mix of mildly technical singletrack with roots and logs to navigate. Runners can expect stunning mountain vistas as they ascend and descend along these challenging pathways. Aid stations will provide hot food for runners to refuel during their long journey. Participants are encouraged to bring their own favorite race treats to help keep costs low while maximizing donations to #22toomany. The event offers a generous 48-hour cutoff time, allowing ample opportunity for participants to complete the course. Heated indoor facilities will be available at key points along the route, providing runners and crew members with bathrooms, cooking spaces, and even places to nap during breaks. A drop bag service is also provided near the mountain top, ensuring that essential items are readily accessible throughout the race day. February temperatures can range from mild 40s to chilly 50s, but snow, freezing rain, or cold wind chills may occur. Registration includes a custom-designed buckle featuring Dexter's "warrior" artwork—a symbol of his triumph over personal struggles. Additionally, $22 from each registration will be donated directly to #22toomany. Early bird registrations before February 1st secure the buckle at pickup; otherwise, it will be mailed after the event. Pacers are permitted once runners have completed their first 50 miles of the race. Essential gear recommendations include a backup headlamp, hot hands packets for warmth, multiple dry layers, a warm coat or puffer jacket, thermal pants layer, waterproof mittens, winter hats and buffs, mylar emergency blankets, and trekking poles. For those seeking accommodation options near Froggy Mountain Adventures, there are campgrounds with running spring water available for car camping in the colder months. Alternatively, Galax offers several affordable hotels and Airbnb rentals within a short distance of the race venue. Bib pickup will be held on Thursday evening from 4-6 pm or Friday morning at 4:30 am at Froggy Mountain Adventures’ location at 166 Old Quaker Road in Galax VA. Join us for this unforgettable winter adventure and make a difference in the lives of veterans across America. Warrior 100 invites all runners to experience not just a race, but an opportunity to support those who have served our nation with unwavering dedication.
