Festival of Cycling

About the Event

Cycling enthusiasts are invited to experience the scenic landscapes of South Leicestershire at the Festival of Cycling, returning for its 11th year. This annual event offers four distinct distance options designed to cater to both road cyclists and off-road adventurers.
For those who prefer paved roads, there’s a choice between two routes: a challenging 100k course or a more manageable yet still rewarding 50k route. Both are meticulously marked with yellow Cycle Route signs and ground markings in key areas for easy navigation. Cyclists can also download GPX files to guide their journey through the rolling terrain of South Leicestershire.
Off-road enthusiasts will find two exciting options: a 70k trail that winds through varied terrains, and a shorter but equally adventurous 40k route suitable for both cross bikes and mountain bikes. These routes are primarily navigated via GPX files, complemented by black arrows, tape, and orange spray paint to ensure clear direction at critical junctures.
Entries open soon with pricing set at £35 per distance option. Participants can switch their chosen distance up until a week before the event date by contacting [email protected]. Entry transfers are also possible under similar conditions but must be completed two days prior to the race start.
Upon crossing the finish line, riders will enjoy a hot meal of pizza with vegan and gluten-free options available. Refreshments like hot and cold drinks will also be on offer at the event venue located at Kibworth Mead Academy in Kibworth, Leicester.
E-bike participants are welcome but must adhere to British Cycling’s guidelines for Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles (EAPCs). This means e-bikes should have pedals capable of propelling them forward and an electric motor with a maximum continuous power output not exceeding 250 watts. Additionally, the electrical assistance must cut off when reaching speeds above 15.5 miles per hour.
The event starts at Kibworth Mead Academy from 8:00 am, offering riders ample time to prepare for their chosen route. On-course support includes professional first aid throughout the race and a mid-route feed station providing essential nutrition and hydration options.
All participants will receive a bespoke medal upon completion of their selected distance. To capture memorable moments during the event, free digital photos are provided post-race through Race Harborough’s Facebook page.
