Dive into one of Essex's most picturesque settings for open water swimming at the breathtaking Hanningfield Waterside Park. Organized by Wild Deer Events and taking place on Saturday, May 15th, this event offers a unique opportunity to explore the stunning Hanningfield Reservoir, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) located between Billericay and Chelmsford.
The reservoir, spanning over 870 acres, is surrounded by mature woodlands that provide serene views across its expansive waters. Swimmers will enjoy two course options: a challenging 1500-meter swim covering two laps of the marked 750-meter route or a shorter yet equally rewarding 750-meter swim. Both courses are clearly defined and supported with safety boats to ensure your comfort and security.
While wetsuits are optional due to expected warm water temperatures, they are recommended for added buoyancy and warmth, especially for less experienced swimmers. The event will also feature live chip timing by Timing Up North, providing real-time results as you cross the finish line.
Upon completing your swim, participants can look forward to receiving a bespoke metal medal and Wild Deer merchandise to commemorate their achievement. Refreshments including drinks and snacks are available on-site to help refuel after the race.
