Essex Walker invites outdoor enthusiasts and fitness aficionados to explore the diverse landscapes of Essex on two distinct routes: the longer 26-mile trek and the shorter, yet equally challenging, 18-mile journey. This event is part of the prestigious Essex and Herts Triple Challenge, alongside the Blackwater Marathon and Herts Hobble. Participants can choose their preferred start time based on their route and pace—those tackling the full distance will set off from 8:00 am onwards for walkers, with runners starting at 9:00 am. The shorter route begins a bit later, allowing more flexibility in timing. All participants are expected to complete their chosen course by 6:00 pm. The event offers strategic checkpoints along the way to provide necessary sustenance and encouragement. Three checkpoint stations punctuate the longer route, while one station serves walkers on the shorter path at the 9-mile mark. These stops offer hot and cold drinks as well as snacks and sandwiches to keep energy levels up throughout the journey. Upon reaching the finish line at Blackmore Village Hall (CM4 0QR), participants are greeted with a meal that celebrates their achievement, along with a certificate of completion for all finishers. Entry is limited to just 200 individuals, ensuring an intimate race experience and fostering community among participants. Entries must be secured by Sunday, October 18th, or earlier if the event reaches its capacity limit. Registration fees cover all necessary amenities but do not include day-of entries or transferability of tickets between entrants. Refunds are available only up to Saturday, October 17th unless the event is cancelled. Participants should be aware that dogs are prohibited from joining this adventure and must bring their own mug for drinks at checkpoints. The minimum age requirement is set at 16 years old; however, those under 18 need a responsible adult accompanying them throughout the course to ensure safety and support. This event promises an engaging experience through varied terrain and scenic routes in Essex, perfect for runners and walkers seeking both challenge and camaraderie.
