Devils Shadow Winter Trail Races

About the Event

Devil's Shadow Winter Trail Races takes place on February 6, 2027, at Mendon Ponds Park. This winter trail race offers runners two challenging distances: the 25k and the 50k, both starting at noon with a loop course around Devil's Bathtub in Mendon Ponds Park.
As racers navigate through winding trails and glacial eskers, they will experience ever-lengthening shadows as daylight wanes. The race is designed to embrace the winter landscape without snowshoes, providing an authentic trail running challenge on packed or icy terrain.
The event features a cozy lodge at Hopkins Point where runners can warm up between loops. This central hub offers high-fives from fellow racers and volunteers alongside hearty refreshments like hot apple cider and Skratch Hydration drinks to keep energy levels up during the race's later stages.
Devil’s Shadow is part of the Common Ground Winter Trail Series, a collaborative effort by FarFetched Enterprises, Goose Adventure Racing, and Doody Runs. This series aims to foster community engagement among trail runners throughout winter months with events including Frozen Assets Endurance Run on January 3rd, Mrs. McCormick's Ice House on January 17th, Devil’s Shadow itself on February 6th, and Go Forth! on February 28th.
Participants in the shorter "Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast" 5-mile race can look forward to a more relaxed experience with an early start at 9:30 AM. The post-race celebration includes ice cream by the fire while watching the longer-distance competitors complete their loops under starlight.
Race HQ and aid stations are conveniently located within Hopkins Point Lodge, providing essential supplies like hot soup from Nathan’s Soup & Salad and salt bread from R's Market to ensure runners stay fueled throughout the day. As daylight fades into night, headlamps become mandatory for those starting new loops after 4:30 PM.
The race organizers emphasize a supportive atmosphere with flexible policies on entry fees, deferrals, and refunds until January 23rd at midnight Eastern Time. The event is committed to fair play, ensuring all participants adhere to rules regarding trail etiquette and safety measures.
Devil’s Shadow Winter Trail Races promises an exhilarating winter adventure for seasoned runners seeking a challenging yet community-oriented experience in the heart of Mendon Ponds Park.
