Crocodile Challenge

Ryton Pools Country Park, managed by Warwickshire County Council near Coventry (CV8 3BH), offers the perfect setting for runners and walkers of all abilities. Located just 15 minutes south of Coventry or a quick drive from Junction 16 of the M1, this picturesque venue is easily accessible via car or public transport with nearby train stations in Rugby and Coventry.
The park features a charming country landscape dotted with pools and open pasture, making it an ideal location for both experienced athletes and casual participants. The terrain at Ryton Pools is relatively flat but includes some gentle rises that might become noticeable towards the end of your run. Underfoot, you'll encounter crushed stone paths along with brief stretches of single-track trails and a few softer sections.
Parking costs up to £5 depending on how long you stay, and there’s a café and toilet block right next to the event headquarters for convenience. The park also welcomes canicross enthusiasts who wish to participate alongside their furry friends; however, participants must keep leads short and be considerate of other runners.
This year's 6-hour challenge offers a flexible format where competitors can run as many laps around the 3.3-mile out-and-back loop as they desire within the time limit. Whether you're aiming for a quick lap or planning to cover over 50 miles, this event caters to all levels of endurance and ambition.
In addition to the running experience, runners are encouraged to support Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children’s Charity by making donations on sign-up. For every entry, 7.5% will be donated directly to the charity, which provides specialist nurses for seriously ill children across the UK. Limited fundraising places are also available through a partnership with Marvin the Marvelous Crocodile.
The event has been an annual tradition since 2018 and is known as one of Big Bear Events' signature races. With no pressure from organizers on lap count or distance, participants can focus solely on their personal goals while enjoying the camaraderie among fellow runners and supporters.
For those interested in a more sustainable option, Earth Runs offers tree tokens instead of traditional medals; each token includes wildflower seeds for planting at home as well as contributing to reforestation efforts.
