Coyote Ugly 30k and 50k Race Course
The Coyote Ugly 30k and 50k trail races are set to take place on March 6, 2027, within the stunning Cohutta Wilderness in Ellijay, Georgia. Both distances start and finish at Mulberry Gap Adventure Basecamp, offering runners a challenging yet rewarding experience through diverse terrain.
The race begins with an initial two-mile stretch along gravel roads before ascending Pinhoti Trail for four miles to reach your first aid station. After a brief respite on the forest service road, you'll face another climb up Pinhoti 1, which stretches nearly four miles and leads into the Bear Creek section of trail.
The route then includes a short out-and-back segment along Bear Creek before reaching an aid station at its peak. Here, runners will split paths; those tackling the 30k distance will descend back to Mulberry Gap via gravel roads, passing by scenic overlooks such as Bear Creek and Barnes Creek Falls. This descent totals approximately 19 miles with around 2,900 feet of elevation gain.
For the more ambitious 50k runners, a half-mile descent leads them onto the Bear Creek trail for another loop through rolling double-track terrain before returning to Mulberry Gap via Pinhoti Trail and forest service roads. This extended route covers about 30 miles with roughly 4,400 feet of climbing.
Aid stations along both routes offer essential supplies including water, electrolyte drinks, energy snacks like gummy bears and grilled cheese sandwiches at the top of Bear Creek, as well as other surprises to keep runners fueled throughout their journey. Cut-off times are set for a balanced challenge: 7 hours for the 30k and 10 hours for the 50k.
Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring race day runs smoothly; they receive free entry into future races and swag as tokens of appreciation. Runners can access detailed information, including cut-off times and aid station locations, via the official runners manual available online.
Registration fees are refundable up to one month before the event with options for deferrals due to pregnancy or other extenuating circumstances. Participants should note that bib transfers aren't allowed if there's a waiting list; refunds can be requested within 30 days of registration and half-credit towards future races thereafter.
