About the Event

On November 22, 2026, the Corrida da Portela will honor Monarco, an iconic figure in Brazilian samba culture and longtime symbol of the Portela school. The race takes place at the Quadra da Portela in Madureira/Oswaldo Cruz, starting promptly at 7:30 AM.
This year's event holds a special significance as it coincides with tributes to Monarco, who dedicated his life to preserving Brazil’s popular culture through music and samba. The Portela school plans to pay tribute to him in the upcoming carnival parade, making this race an integral part of that celebration.
Participants can choose between a 5 km run or a 3 km walk, both courses weaving through vibrant streets filled with the energy of Rio's samba community. The event offers various kit options, including premium packages featuring exclusive merchandise like hats and bags alongside standard items such as medals and race numbers.
Join this unique blend of tradition, health, and emotion at Corrida da Portela 2026 to be part of a memorable tribute and celebration.
Participants are encouraged to register early for discounted rates.
