The event unfolds across some of Denmark's most striking landscapes, characterized by drifting sands that have long challenged local residents. The terrain is dotted with windy coasts, expansive dune systems, and varied vegetation including heaths, meadows, and coniferous plantations. Wet hollows and small ponds add to the unique setting, creating a mosaic of natural beauty.
The sandy dunes in Thy National Park are particularly noteworthy, constituting a rare habitat protected by law due to their ecological significance. These areas offer runners an opportunity to explore some of Denmark's most pristine nature while immersing themselves in its rich cultural history.
Starting from Løkken and following the North Sea Trail and Hærvejsruten, participants embark on a journey that merges with all other routes along Vestkyststien from Bulbjerg to Agger. The trail features exhilarating sections between dunes, stretches of pristine beach, dense conifer forests, and charming fishing communities where boats are pulled up onto the shore.
All runners will finish in the quaint village of Agger, a fitting end to their journey through this diverse landscape. Notably, participants on the 100-mile route should prepare for an unmarked first half by bringing and using GPS devices or watches, though markings will be provided at particularly challenging sections during the latter part.
