On November 22, 2026, the Circuito de Maratonas Aquáticas Velho Chico hosts its eighth annual Travessia Arca Sport along the Rio São Francisco. This open water swimming competition aims to promote environmental awareness and celebrate the river's rich cultural heritage while fostering a sense of community among swimmers from diverse backgrounds.
The 5-kilometer swim begins at Ilha do Maroto, offering participants an exhilarating journey through the clear waters of the iconic Brazilian river. Swimmers will navigate gentle currents as they make their way to Kaiakeria Arca Sport in Juazeiro, Bahia, where a festive atmosphere awaits upon arrival.
Organized by Arca Sport and sanctioned by the Federação Baiana de Desportos Aquáticos (FBDA) and Confederação Brasileira de Desportos Aquáticos (CBDA), this event ensures safety and technical excellence. Swimmers can choose between two kit options: a complete package including a t-shirt, eco-bag, silicone cap, and participation medal for R$100 or the simpler option with just a silicone cap, eco-bag, and medal for R$80.
Registration closes on November 14th for the full kit and November 18th for the simple version. Participants must be in good physical condition and assume responsibility for their own safety during the event. Details about kit pick-up will be shared through @maratonasaquaticasvelhochico Instagram account and a dedicated WhatsApp group.
