Chiltern Kanter

Embark on an adventurous day of map reading and exploration at the Chiltern Kanter, scheduled for March 7th, 2027. This unique race challenges participants to navigate through picturesque landscapes while completing a series of grid-based questions along three distinct routes: a 13-mile trek with one checkpoint, an 18-mile journey featuring two checkpoints, and a longer 26-mile route that includes three checkpoints.
The event begins at Pitstone Memorial Hall in the heart of rural England. Registration opens at 7:30 AM for walkers to start rolling from 8:00 AM and runners from 9:00 AM. The day’s activities culminate with a mandatory finish time by 6:30 PM, ensuring participants have ample daylight to complete their chosen course.
Participants must download and print their own grid-question sheet well in advance of the race date; these sheets will be available on the BBN website starting February 23rd. No GPX files are provided, emphasizing the importance of map reading skills. Essential items include a mug for refreshments at checkpoints (no mugs will be supplied), waterproofs and warm clothing suitable for variable weather conditions.
The race promises scenic countryside views, with participants encouraged to follow the Countryside Code throughout their journey. Dogs are permitted on leads but must not enter any halls except in cases of assistance dogs. A small first aid kit is recommended as part of your essential equipment.
Upon completion, all who answer questions correctly will receive a certificate and a free badge upon request. Additionally, those completing the BBN triple challenge—comprising Chiltern Kanter, Pick & Mix, and Hannington Hike in any order—will earn special recognition with unique certificates and badges.
The entry fee includes drinks throughout the day, biscuits at the start line, snacks at all checkpoints, and a light meal upon finishing. Vegetarian options are catered for, along with some vegan choices though not guaranteed. No refunds will be issued after February 21st, except in cases where your spot is filled from the waiting list, which would result in a donation to the local Air Ambulance.
Join this exciting event and immerse yourself in the beauty of rural England while testing your navigation skills on challenging yet rewarding terrain.
