CHIG Mitre: Epping Forest North West

Immerse yourself in the serene beauty of Epping Forest for the "Michael Brandon" Mitre race on December 6, 2026. This national-level orienteering event takes place within the contoured slopes and woodland trails surrounding High Beach, offering a challenging yet scenic course through runnable terrain with numerous streams and contour features to navigate.
The event center is located at The Gardens of Hanbury in Waltham Abbey, where limited parking spaces are available free of charge. Participants will start approximately 800 meters from the center after crossing a marshaled road; allow about ten minutes for this walk.
For those traveling by car, clear directions guide you through Honey Lane or Woodreddon Hill to reach Pynest Green Lane and The Gardens of Hanbury. Public transport options include taking the Central Line to Loughton followed by bus 16C towards Waltham Abbey.
The race features various courses tailored for different skill levels, with starts scheduled between 10:30 AM and 12:15 PM, closing at 2:00 PM. A detailed map updated in autumn 2026 will be provided to aid navigation through the intricate network of paths and minor road crossings.
Competitors can expect comprehensive facilities including toilets, a clothing dump area for gear storage, and download services all located within The Gardens of Hanbury event center. Live results may also be available on-site during the race day.
