The Spring Wirral Ultra invites runners and walkers alike to explore the scenic beauty of the Wirral Peninsula Coast on May 1, 2027. This 36-mile route is predominantly flat with just 812 feet of elevation gain, making it one of the flattest ultra events available in the region. The circular course begins at Hooton Memorial Hall and follows the Wirral Way clockwise, showcasing stunning coastal views throughout. Unlike its winter counterpart, this spring edition offers participants a full day's worth of daylight to enjoy the trail’s natural beauty without worrying about darkness setting in too early. Although the route is well-marked with signs, runners will also need some self-navigation skills as additional guidance may not be provided at all times during their journey. Five strategically placed checkpoints along the way offer essential hydration and snacks for refueling throughout the 12-hour cutoff period. Upon crossing the finish line back at Hooton Memorial Hall, participants receive a commemorative medal, drinks, and snacks, plus an optional t-shirt for £10. The event also features GPS tracking through Open Tracking, allowing friends and family to follow your progress in real-time. With limited spots available—only 430 runners will be admitted—the Spring Wirral Ultra promises not only scenic vistas but also a competitive atmosphere with trophies awarded to the top male, female, non-binary finishers as well as age categories for men and women aged 50, 60 & 70.
