The Running Kind is excited to unveil an ambitious and challenging endurance race: the Catskill 100 Miler, set against the rugged backdrop of New York's Catskill Mountains. This carbon-neutral event promises not only breathtaking views but also a formidable test for some of the most seasoned mountain runners in the country. Spanning approximately 160 kilometers (100 miles), the course weaves through four distinct wilderness areas within the Catskills, offering an intimate connection with nature that few races can match. Runners will traverse over 25,000 feet of elevation gain and loss across extremely technical terrain, making this one of the most challenging ultra-marathons in the United States. The route takes runners to the summits of twelve out of thirty-three Catskill High Peaks, including Indian Head, Twin Mountain, Sugarloaf, Plateau, Hunter, West Kill, Wittenberg, Cornell, Slide, Big Indian, Eagle and Balsam. The Devil’s Path, known for its steep ascents and rocky terrain, features prominently in the course design. To ensure a smooth experience while minimizing impact on sensitive wilderness areas, runners will start in heats of fifteen every five minutes. Female and non-binary participants are prioritized with 50% of the spots reserved specifically for them, reflecting the race director's commitment to inclusivity and diversity within extreme sports events. The Catskill 100 Miler is designed not just as a test of physical endurance but also mental fortitude. With its focus on preserving natural areas while pushing runners to their limits, this event stands out in the ultra-running community for both its environmental consciousness and athletic challenge. This race weekend will coincide with Climb It For Climate, offering shorter distances such as 25K and 8K for those looking to familiarize themselves with the terrain before tackling a full ultramarathon.
