Spanning 70 kilometers, this fully marked race begins at dawn in the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park and winds through some of Wales' most captivating landscapes.
The journey starts with a serene morning departure from Brecon, where participants follow the Taff Trail along an abandoned branch of the Taff Vale Railway. This historic path provides not only scenic views but also insight into Wales's rich industrial heritage. The trail meanders alongside the Glamorganshire Canal, which was once bustling with coal and iron ore traffic.
As runners progress eastward from Brecon to Talybont-on-Usk, they ascend gradually towards Torpantu before descending all the way through Merthyr Tydfil. Along this route, you'll encounter stunning natural features such as Pontsticill Reservoir and the Brecon Mountain Railway. The race continues with a poignant reminder of Wales's history at Aberfan, where runners will pass by the memorial commemorating a tragic event.
From there, the course shifts to an off-road cycle path through Pontypridd before reaching the finish line in Cardiff. This section offers a mix of urban and industrial landscapes as you head south towards Nantgarw. The race's unique linear format means that participants park at the finish and are transported back to Brecon by coach.
