Boo the Stigma 5K

     Boo the Stigma is a 5k to bring awareness to mental health in our community. The race will be held at Shelby Middle School on their cross country trail. There will be t shirts and medals for everyone. We will have booths for mental health providers in our community to gain more information about available resources to help show how accessible mental health support is and to get rid of the stigma associated with mental health, especially in school aged kids. Mental health is not just an issue adults face, it unfortunately starts at a young age. Help us boo the stigma of mental health and provide to our community members in need. 

     The proceeds will go to Alexander Youth Network. Their day treatment program provides highly individualized treatment programs for students k-12 who are facing challenges in the classroom due to mental or behavioral health diagnoses. Their highly structured classroom environment, coupled with multi-sensory techniques and smaller class sizes, allows your child to embrace their own unique talents and learn the skills they need to succeed in school and return to a traditional school program.

     There will be trick or treating, food trucks, goody bags, a 50/50 Raffle, costume contest, and lots more fun, so please come out and enjoy time with your community members. The costume contest winner will get a prize! The Black Sheep Mobile Grill will be here from 10-1 to keep you fed while you hang out with your community and “trick or treat” to our different mental health booths.

      Packet pick up will start at 8am with the race time starting at 9am. All ages are welcomed to join our 5k walk/race. Proceeds will go to buying supplies to help our kids in need.
