Nestled near Bewl Water Visitor Centre in Kent, the Bewl Water Race Series offers runners an unparalleled blend of scenic beauty and challenging terrain. This bi-annual series features four distinct courses: 10km, half marathon, full marathon, and ultra 50km.
The race routes wind through undulating rural trails and quiet country lanes that encircle the serene waters of Bewl Reservoir. Throughout each course, runners are treated to breathtaking views of the shimmering lake as they navigate a mix of wooded paths and rolling hills.
For those seeking a shorter yet scenic experience, the 10km race starts at 10:00 am with an out-and-back route that reaches its turnaround point via well-marked marshals. The half marathon begins earlier at 9:30 am, initially taking runners on a short anti-clockwise loop before continuing along the reservoir for two full loops.
The marathon kicks off even earlier at 9:00 am and offers participants an extended clockwise journey around Bewl Water. Runners will complete three circuits of the lake, starting with a brief initial lap followed by two longer stretches that showcase the course's varied terrain and stunning vistas.
For endurance enthusiasts, the ultra 50km race starts as early as 8:30 am and challenges runners to conquer two full loops around Bewl Water before concluding on an additional shorter loop. This grueling yet rewarding route offers ample opportunities for runners to immerse themselves in nature while pushing their limits over a distance that extends slightly beyond the standard marathon length.
All distances have been meticulously measured using advanced GPS technology, ensuring accuracy despite natural variations inherent to trail running. The Bewl Water Marathon has garnered recognition from Runners World as one of the top 10 marathons in the UK, reflecting its unique combination of scenic beauty and challenging terrain.
