Beat Bechtel

The Beat Bechtel 5K returns to Bechtel Park in Waterloo, Ontario on September 13th, 2026. The event is free for Run Pure + Simple members and offers a certified and chip-timed two-loop trail race through the park grounds.
Bechtel Park is nestled just north of downtown Waterloo, surrounded by trees that frame the winding trails. On race morning at 9:30 AM, runners will start their loop around the picturesque area. The atmosphere is relaxed yet energized as participants warm up for a challenging but rewarding run.
This event has been part of the local running calendar since its inception in 2018 and now enters its ninth year. With over 450 participants each time, it supports local initiatives through Run Pure + Simple's scholarship fund. The community comes together to celebrate fitness and friendship.
The course is a two-loop trail that measures exactly five kilometers. Participants will traverse the diverse terrain of Bechtel Park, encountering varied surfaces from smooth dirt paths to rocky sections. A notable feature includes a brief descent near the park’s main pond before heading back towards the start/finish line.
On race day, expect temperatures around 17 degrees Celsius with some light humidity and gentle winds. The weather is comfortable but slightly damp; runners should come prepared for conditions that can make running feel just a bit cooler than it actually is.
