Join us on July 4, 2027, for the Odyssey @ Big East & Maldon Triathlon, an exceptional race experience tailored by triathletes for triathletes. This Middle Distance event features a challenging swim through tidal waters, a scenic bike ride along quiet roads, and a flat run course that winds past stunning coastal scenery. The day begins at 10:00am with registration opening its doors to athletes from all walks of life. The race itself starts promptly at 11:50am when participants plunge into the river for an exhilarating swim leg. This 1.5km tidal river swim takes place on a looped course starting beside Byrhtnoth's statue, commemorating the historic Battle of Maldon. Next up is an 86km bike ride through the quiet roads and picturesque landscapes of the Dengie Peninsula. The route leads athletes out of Maldon to Latchingdon, Tillingham, Steeple, and Mayland, offering a serene setting with rolling green fields and quaint villages along the way. The run course is equally captivating, featuring a flat 5km loop that hugs the promenade and sea wall footpath. Spectators line the final kilometre through Promenade Park to cheer on runners as they sprint towards the finish line under the watchful eyes of race officials. In addition to the Middle Distance event, athletes can also opt for shorter distances: Standard (1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run) and Sprint (750m swim, 25km bike, 5km run). For those who prefer not to run or want a team experience, an Aquabike option is available as well as relay events for teams of two or three. The event concludes with the opportunity to relax and socialize at race HQ. All finishers will receive a commemorative medal, while additional goodies await athletes upon crossing the line. Participants can also choose to support Alzheimer's Research UK by raising funds during their training and on race day. The charity initiative ensures that every step taken contributes not only to personal achievement but also towards advancing research for dementia care. For those looking to enhance their performance with top-quality gear, Zone3 wetsuits are available for hire either seasonally or daily.
