Assault on BlackRock

Immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of North Carolina’s Plott Balsam Mountains as you tackle the Assault on BlackRock trail race. This challenging seven-mile course, featuring 2,770 feet of elevation gain, winds through dense spruce forests and along rocky/dirt roads before culminating at a breathtaking summit ridge that stands at an impressive 5,810 feet above sea level. The final third-mile stretch is particularly grueling, with runners ascending 650 vertical feet on steep single-track terrain.
Race day promises not only stunning mountain vistas but also the chance to support a worthy cause; all proceeds benefit Rolling Start NC, which provides refurbished vehicles at no cost to local families in need within Jackson County. Early registrants can secure race t-shirts by signing up before March 1st, and top finishers will receive awards for both overall performance and age group excellence (50+).
For those seeking an extra challenge, the BlackRock 101 Challenge invites runners to complete the course under one hour and forty-one minutes to earn a distinctive belt buckle. But can anyone break into that elusive sub-hour territory? The first participant to achieve this feat on race day will take home a $500 cash prize.
