Kick off 2027 by conquering Aonach Mor's Uphill Race, an exhilarating test of strength and determination from the Nevis Range car park to the summit gondola station. This challenging course offers runners a unique opportunity to push their limits while enjoying breathtaking views of Scotland’s rugged terrain. Participants will gather early on Thursday, January 1st, at the Nevis Range Ski Centre in Torlundy near Fort William for registration between 9:15 and 10:45 AM. A race briefing begins promptly at 11:20 AM, followed by a start time of 11:30 AM sharp. The course spans just over three kilometers with an impressive climb of 610 meters. Full body cover is mandatory to ensure participants stay warm and safe throughout the ascent. This includes waterproof jackets with hoods and taped seams, waterproof trousers also with taped seams, a hat or buff, gloves or mitts. Race organizers will conduct kit checks at both registration and the finish line. The race aims for inclusivity by reserving half of its 150 spots specifically for women and non-binary runners. Entry is via pre-registration followed by invitations to complete entries within seven days from receipt. The entry fee remains £15 per participant, with no on-the-day sign-ups available. Upon completion, all participants are invited to the Snowgoose Cafe at the summit gondola station where they can enjoy a well-deserved bowl of soup and roll along with tea or coffee. Prizes will be awarded in this cozy setting, providing a warm conclusion to an invigorating morning outdoors. In case of severe weather conditions that prevent operation of the gondola, race organizers have prepared an alternative route leading up to Tower 13 before returning to the start line at the bottom station. This contingency ensures safety and continuity for all participants while adjusting refreshment areas accordingly. For those looking to extend their New Year's Day running experience, Fort William Park Run starts just down the hill from Nevis Range at its usual time of 9:30 AM on January 1st. Both events offer a chance to challenge oneself physically or provide flexibility for family activities by splitting childcare duties between runs. Join Aonach Mor Uphill Race and make your New Year's resolution come alive with an unforgettable run through the Scottish Highlands!
