In celebration of September as Sickle Cell Awareness month, join the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Philadelphia /Delaware Valley Chapter for our 28th Annual Walter E. Brandon Sickle Cell 5K Walk/ Fun Run Fundraiser! This annual walk/fun run - founded in 1998, in memory of our agency co-founder, Walter E. Brandon - serves as a platform to raise greater awareness about sickle cell disease and trait, along with the importance of continued sickle cell education and knowing your trait status. We are delighted to provide all attendees with inspiration and additional resources you could use.
When you participate in our walk/fun run, you are advocating to bring greater attention to this "invisible" genetic disease. The W.E.B. Sickle Cell 5K is the perfect opportunity to encourage loved ones/family, friends, and your network to help advocate for sickle cell by walking/running and purchasing this year's merch in honor of those living with the disease and trait.
This year, our 28th Walter E. Brandon Sickle Cell 5K Walk/Fun Run Fundraiser honors the life and legacy of our dearly beloved and dearly missed, multifaceted Sickle Cell Expert, Hematologist/Oncologist and Internist, Dr. Roy Neil Gay. We also recognize warriors with sickle cell disease and those who care for and love our brothers and sisters.
Program will be as follows:
7:00am – 8:00am - Opening Ceremony
8:05am – Runners commence from "Starting Line"
8:15am - Walkers commence from "Starting Line"
Feel free to visit vendors throughout the event, which ends at 12:00pm. Music and entertainment will also be provided throughout the event.
*Don't forget to tag us in your walk/run videos and/or photos on social media. Feel free to send photos of your walk/fun run experience to scdaa.pdvc@sicklecelldisorder.com!
