Alpine Challenge 2027

The Alpine Challenge stands as one of Australia's most demanding yet breathtaking mountain trail runs. Set against the backdrop of Victoria’s majestic alpine region, this race offers runners an unforgettable journey through some of the country’s highest peaks and most rugged terrain.
Competitors can choose from a variety of distances to suit their skill level, ensuring that both seasoned ultrarunners and enthusiastic amateurs are catered for when they gather at Falls Creek in April. The pinnacle event is the 100-mile (160 km) course, which winds through six major climbs including Mt Feathertop, Mt Hotham, Mt McKay, Spion Kopje, Mt Nelse, and culminates atop Victoria’s highest peak: Mt Bogong.
With a total elevation gain of 7,600 meters, the route challenges runners with steep ascents and descents. Each climb offers unique scenery, from dense forests to open alpine meadows, providing panoramic views that make every step worthwhile for those who dare to take on this grueling yet rewarding course. The race is not just a test of physical endurance but also an opportunity to immerse oneself in the natural beauty and tranquility of Australia’s mountains.
The Alpine Challenge invites runners to experience the thrill of conquering these iconic peaks while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow participants who share their passion for trail running. Whether you’re pushing your limits on the full distance or taking part in one of the shorter options, this event promises an unforgettable adventure amidst some of Australia’s most spectacular landscapes.
