Since its inception in 1980, the Allschwil Klausenlauf has become an integral part of Northwestern Switzerland's running calendar. Each year, around 1,700 runners gather for this beloved event, with a significant portion being young participants who join in various age-appropriate races and activities.
The festival atmosphere is palpable as families enjoy the family run and children’s races that cater to different age groups. The shorter distances of 0.85 km and 1.7 km are designed specifically for kids and teenagers, fostering a sense of community and fun. For those looking for more distance, there's also a beginner-friendly race over 6.6 km as well as a Nordic walking event that covers the same route.
The highlight of the day is undoubtedly the main 10-kilometer run through scenic Allschwil. Runners navigate varied terrain, including streets and paths lined with cheering spectators, making for an exhilarating experience. The race concludes at a festive finish line where participants are greeted by "Samichlaus," who hands out gifts to all runners in kind.
Children also receive special recognition: each young runner is awarded a medal upon crossing the finish line along with a traditional Swiss treat known as “Grättimaa.” This unique tradition adds an extra layer of excitement and joy for younger competitors.
