The Volunteer Fire Brigade of Niederneukirchen is excited to host the 34th Austrian Cycling Championships for Fire Brigades, an esteemed sporting event that welcomes members from across Austria's professional and volunteer fire departments as well as cycling enthusiasts. The race promises a thrilling individual time trial on a diverse and challenging route.
The course winds through picturesque villages like Hofkirchen, Losensteinleiten, and Weichstetten before returning to the starting point at the Fire Brigade House in Niederneukirchen. Spanning 14.6 kilometers with an elevation gain of 138 meters, this event tests endurance, strength, and concentration as cyclists navigate varied terrain.
Participants can register under two categories: members of Austrian professional or volunteer fire brigades and a guest class open to all non-members. The race adheres strictly to the current regulations set by both the Austrian Cycling Federation (ÖRV) and the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), ensuring fair competition while also respecting traffic rules.
Competitors will compete in various age categories for men and women, as well as a youth division. Additionally, there is a team award given to the fire brigade with the highest number of participants. The current course record stands at 19 minutes and 58 seconds.
The registration deadline approaches quickly, with entry fees increasing after July 11th, August 8th, and finally on August 9th. Cyclists must register directly through the event's website to secure their spot in this unique blend of athletic competition and camaraderie among firefighters and cycling fans alike.
On race day, cyclists will gather at the Fire Brigade House from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM for number pick-up before setting off on a staggered start sequence beginning at noon. The event culminates in an awards ceremony at 5:00 PM where winners are celebrated.
