28th Annual Allen Stone Braveheart Memorial Races - 7/10/27 - 31st Street Park
About the Event
Since its inception in 1999 as part of an effort to support the American Heart Association, the Allen Stone Braveheart Memorial Races has become much more than just a race. It was born out of tragedy when local Navy SEAL and friend of the committee, Allen Stone, tragically lost his life shortly after winning his age group at what was then known as the Braveheart Run Swim Run. In honor of Allen's memory and dedication to service, the event has evolved into a poignant tribute that also includes a 5K run and a one-mile race for children. Each year, participants join together not only to challenge themselves physically but also to pay homage to those who have made significant sacrifices in their communities and beyond. The races take place annually against the backdrop of Virginia Beach's stunning coastline and bustling cityscape, offering runners an invigorating mix of urban and seaside routes that showcase both natural beauty and local landmarks. The event is celebrated for its inclusive atmosphere, welcoming families and individuals from all walks of life to come together in support of worthy causes. Proceeds raised during the Allen Stone Braveheart Memorial Races have cumulatively surpassed one million dollars, benefiting a trio of vital organizations: the Navy SEAL Foundation, Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, and the Virginia Beach Lifesaving Association. These funds play a crucial role in providing essential services to those who serve or have served their country with unwavering commitment. The race serves as more than just an athletic endeavor; it is a heartfelt celebration of community spirit and resilience, honoring heroes like Allen Stone while supporting ongoing efforts that keep local communities safe and healthy. Participation in the races offers runners an opportunity to not only achieve personal milestones but also contribute meaningfully to causes that uphold values of bravery, service, and compassion.
