2.3. Sholden Hellfire Crew (Volunteer)

Join the Crew for an Unforgettable Experience at Kent Backyard Ultra Series on April 10, 2027. This isn't just any running event; it's a unique challenge that pushes both runners and volunteers to their limits.
Hellfire Events invites you to be more than just a spectator—become part of the Crew. As a volunteer, your role is integral to creating an environment where participants can push themselves beyond what they thought possible.
The Kent Backyard Ultra Series operates on a simple premise: 4.167 miles every hour, starting at the top of each hour and requiring runners to finish within that hour or be out. Yet, this straightforward concept transforms into something far more profound as you witness participants' determination and resilience unfold over time.
As part of Race Control, your responsibilities include welcoming and checking in runners, ensuring they have what they need between laps, maintaining a calm atmosphere on site, and providing steady support when needed. Alternatively, Course Ops volunteers will be positioned along the route to guide runners safely through key points and hazards while monitoring their progress as fatigue sets in.
Volunteers are expected to commit to shifts of 6, 9, or 12 hours but can stay longer if they wish. The event continues until it concludes naturally, with some lasting up to 41 hours. Your presence is crucial throughout this period, especially as the night progresses and the challenge intensifies.
In return for your dedication, Hellfire Events offers a range of benefits:
- Fully transferable event credit equivalent to one full Backyard Ultra experience
- Priority access to future events, including sold-out opportunities
- A place within the Crew community
- Opportunities to build meaningful connections with like-minded individuals
- Refreshments during your shift and a volunteer medal upon completion
For those who continue their involvement by reaching 100 hours of service, there's an invitation to step into a Community Leader role, complete with additional perks and responsibilities.
The culture at Hellfire Events emphasizes unity over individualism. Volunteers are encouraged to support one another while fostering a welcoming environment for all participants. This collaborative spirit is what makes the event truly special—creating moments that runners will cherish long after crossing the finish line.
Once you sign up, your Crew Coordinator will guide you through scheduling and role preferences via a dedicated group chat where questions can be addressed promptly by Community Leaders or directly to [email protected] for further assistance.
Join us at Kent Backyard Ultra Series and become part of an experience that transcends the ordinary, offering not just rewards but profound personal growth and lasting memories.
To ensure you're well-prepared:
- You'll receive your role assignment and detailed briefing
- Key timings and arrival details will be communicated to you in advance
This event isn't about following a strict protocol; it's about stepping into roles that intuitively support the runners. Most volunteers find themselves staying longer than initially planned, drawn by the emotional connection they form with participants and their journey.
It’s an experience where every moment counts—earned through dedication rather than given freely. Join us at Sholden on April 10th to be part of something truly extraordinary.
