Join the Crew for an Unforgettable Experience at Vigo's Backyard Ultra Series
Step into something extraordinary on Friday, October 16th, 2026, as Hellfire Events presents the Kent Backyard Ultra Series. This is no ordinary race; it’s a unique endurance challenge that transforms participants and volunteers alike.
The event in Vigo unfolds with simplicity: runners cover 4.167 miles every hour on the hour, aiming to complete each lap within an hour or face elimination if they miss their bell time. While this sounds straightforward, what happens out there is anything but ordinary. You'll witness athletes pushing beyond their limits, experiencing moments of triumph and struggle as they navigate through the night.
As a volunteer for Race Control or Course Ops, your role isn't just to observe; you're an integral part of creating an environment where runners can test themselves safely and supportively. For Race Control volunteers, responsibilities include welcoming participants, maintaining order at registration points, and ensuring that the space remains calm and organized. Meanwhile, Course Ops volunteers are positioned along the route, guiding runners through potential hazards while monitoring their well-being as fatigue sets in.
Volunteers commit to shifts of 6, 9, or 12 hours but can stay longer if they wish, with regular breaks built into the schedule. This year's event is expected to continue until early Sunday morning, making your support crucial throughout its duration.
Your contributions extend beyond mere tasks; you're part of a community that fosters an inclusive and supportive environment. The Crew operates without egos or cliques, everyone playing their role in ensuring safety and encouragement for all runners.
In return for stepping up to this challenge, Hellfire Events offers volunteers fully transferable event credits equivalent to the length of your shift, priority access to future events, a volunteer medal, drinks, snacks, and opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals. With 100 hours of service under your belt, you may be invited into a Community Leader role, complete with additional perks.
To join the Crew, simply sign up through Hellfire Events' platform. Your Crew Coordinator will guide you on availability and preferred roles, adding you to the group chat for further details before event day. You'll receive essential information such as your specific duties, key timings, arrival instructions, and contact numbers from the team.
This is an experience that goes beyond physical challenges—it's about emotional connections formed between volunteers and runners alike, creating memories that last long after the race ends. Join us at Vigo for a night of endurance, support, and camaraderie.
