About the Event

The event takes place in the charming town of Cornelius, located in beautiful North Carolina. On race day, runners will experience a crisp autumn morning as the sun rises over Lake Norman, casting a golden light on the lush green landscape and sparkling water. The community comes alive with energy, bringing together locals and visitors for a celebration that is both familiar yet always exciting.
This year marks the 20th edition of this beloved race, which has been running since 1997 to raise funds for local schools in Cornelius. With over 350 participants expected, it’s not just about the race but also a testament to community spirit and support. The half marathon distance offers runners the chance to experience the full beauty of the area, while shorter distances cater to those looking for a more accessible challenge.
Course & Conditions
The course will traverse firm and slightly soft terrain typical of mid-November in North Carolina, providing a mix of paved roads and scenic paths along Lake Norman. The route features rolling hills that offer stunning views of the lake and surrounding countryside, making each mile feel like an adventure through nature’s own landscape. Runners can expect to start at Cornelius High School before heading towards Southlake Crossing Mall for part of their journey.
The race will begin with a traditional gun salute followed by a mass start, ensuring everyone gets off on the right foot. The course layout includes two aid stations offering water and electrolyte drinks along the way, providing ample opportunities for hydration without disrupting the flow of runners. A special feature is the finish line area where participants can enjoy post-race refreshments while savoring the sense of accomplishment.
