Trail Lac Lalla Takerkoust Marrakech Maroc

Immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes of Morocco at the Trail Takerkoust, an annual trail running event that invites runners to explore the breathtaking beauty of Lalla Takerkoust village. Nestled less than an hour from Marrakech in the heart of the High Atlas mountain range, this picturesque setting offers a unique blend of desert and snow-capped peaks, creating an unforgettable backdrop for any runner.
The 9th edition of Trail du Maroc features four main trail races: two shorter courses at 10 km and 21 km, as well as longer challenges spanning 42 km. For young adventurers, there's also a special Kids Trail covering just 3 kilometers to introduce the next generation to the joys of running in nature.
Participants will traverse paths that wind through Lalla Takerkoust Lake’s scenic shoreline, past its dam and into arid desert landscapes dotted with snow-capped peaks known as "the roof of Morocco." These diverse terrains challenge runners while providing awe-inspiring views at every turn. The 42 km route is particularly demanding, boasting a staggering elevation gain of over 1,300 meters.
Beyond the physical challenges lies a commitment to sustainability and community engagement. Organizers ensure that waste collection efforts remove several tons from local areas each year, preserving this natural paradise for future generations. Biodegradable materials are used throughout, and continuous clean-up efforts maintain environmental integrity alongside athletic pursuits.
The event’s social dimension includes fundraising initiatives by the Trail Maroc association dedicated to various societal projects. This adds depth to your experience beyond just competition or personal achievement.
Post-race activities abound in Marrakech-Safi region, offering a mix of cultural exploration and outdoor adventures. From hiking trails through Toubkal National Park's diverse wildlife habitats—home to gazelles, lynx, leopards, jackals, mouflon, birds of prey—to horseback riding or quad biking excursions across the Agafay Desert, there’s something for every interest.
Indulge in local cuisine at its finest with traditional Moroccan dishes like tajine and couscous. Visit historical sites such as Menara Gardens and Majorelle Garden to immerse yourself fully into this vibrant culture.
