La Maraîchère

February 6th marks the return of The Market Gardener in Feillens, Ain, a charming French village where tradition meets sport. Organized by Bresse Saône Running (BSR), this year's edition celebrates its 35th anniversary with an array of race formats designed to cater to all levels and ages.
The event is more than just a run; it’s a community gathering that honors Candlemas, complete with homemade pancakes and cheering supporters along the route. For those looking for a relaxed experience, there's the FLO’wer Run, a 5 km non-timed race where everyone can participate. The same goes for the FLO'wer Walk, designed specifically for leisurely strollers.
Competitive runners will appreciate the official French Federation of Athletics (FFA) label on both the 10 km and 5 km races. These timed events feature chip timing to ensure accurate results. With a positive elevation gain of 35 meters over its course, the 10 km race offers an excellent opportunity for personal bests.
Youngsters aren’t left out either; children can join in on the fun with their own Youth Rush (3 km), Mini Sprout Rush (1.5 km), and Baby Sprout Rush (500 m) races. These non-timed events are a great way to introduce kids to running while keeping things light-hearted.
Post-race, participants will be greeted by an array of local delicacies—homemade pancakes and hearty soups await to warm you up after the chill of winter. The festive atmosphere continues with activities such as climbing Roche de Solutré for stunning views over the Mâconnais vineyards or exploring Cluny Abbey at night, illuminated only by flashlight.
Don’t miss out on trying some local specialties like Bresse chicken, gaudes (a type of pie), and white wines while you’re there. Whether you're in it to compete or simply enjoy a leisurely run, The Market Gardener promises an unforgettable day filled with camaraderie and celebration.
