Nestled in the heart of northeastern Thailand lies Buriram, a vibrant city with ambitions to become "Thailand's Sport City Center." At its core is the Buriram Marathon, an epic race that has quickly established itself as one of the premier marathon events on the global circuit. Founded by Mr. Newin Chidchob, President of Buriram United and Executive of Chang International Circuit, this event aims to showcase the city’s rich sporting heritage while elevating it to a must-visit destination for runners from around the world.
The marathon is meticulously organized through collaboration between key stakeholders including the Athletic Association of Thailand (AAT), Asian Athletics Association (AAA), Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), Buriram United, and local government bodies. This partnership ensures that every aspect of the race—from course design to logistical support—is executed with precision and care. The event has earned recognition from both the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and AAT, underscoring its high standards.
Runners can expect a challenging yet rewarding experience as they navigate through Buriram’s diverse landscape. The marathon route weaves through picturesque rural areas dotted with traditional Thai villages before transitioning into bustling urban streets lined with cheering spectators. Both the full marathon and half-marathon courses have been certified by an IAAF-AIMS Grade A course measurer, guaranteeing accuracy in distance.
Beyond its competitive edge, Buriram Marathon offers a unique cultural immersion for participants. The race weekend is filled with festivities that celebrate Thai sports culture, including local food stalls, traditional music performances, and vibrant parades. Whether you are seeking personal bests or simply looking to soak up the atmosphere of this emerging sporting hub, the Buriram Marathon promises an unforgettable journey.
