The YYG Runway Run 2026 is a unique aviation-themed charity event held at the YYG Charlottetown Airport in Prince Edward Island. Scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026, the 5K run allows participants to race on the airport grounds, with all proceeds directly supporting the PEI Humane Society. This event combines fitness with community support, offering a rare opportunity to access the runway environment.
Race Categories and EntryThe event features a single 5K individual category. Registration is conducted exclusively in advance, and the field is limited to ensure a safe environment on the airport property.
| Category | Price | Registration Deadline | Time Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Individual 5K | CA$34.70 | Friday, May 8 @ 9:00 PM | 60 Minutes |
The race begins at the Gray Group Hangar (10 Maple Hills Avenue) in Charlottetown. The terrain is exceptionally flat and paved, as it takes place on the airport's runway and taxiway surfaces. In early May, Charlottetown typically experiences cool, crisp spring weather with average highs of 11°C and lows of 2°C. While the course provides a high-speed surface for runners, it is entirely exposed to the elements, meaning wind can be a significant factor on the open runway. Strollers are permitted on the route, but due to airport security and safety regulations, bicycles and pets are strictly prohibited.
Logistics and Participant PerksRace kit pickup is held on the Thursday and Friday (May 7-8) preceding the race at the YYG Airport Authority office (250 Maple Hills Avenue, Suite 132) between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM. On race day, free parking is available in the grass lots off Maple Hills Avenue. The first 300 registrants receive a complimentary YYG-branded hat. Additionally, a raffle for two round-trip Porter Airlines flight vouchers will be held on-site; tickets are priced at $10 each or 3 for $25, with proceeds benefiting the Humane Society.
Awards and TimingThe race officially begins at 9:00 AM Atlantic Daylight Time (ADT). Professional timing services are provided, and prizes will be awarded to the Top 3 male and Top 3 female finishers. Because the event takes place on an active airport infrastructure, all participants must be off the course within one hour of the start time to allow the facility to resume normal operations. For any specific inquiries, participants can reach out to the event contact, Amanda Smith.
