Be part of history at Mt. Cuba Center’s inaugural Wild & Rooted 5K Trail Run! For the first time ever, runners and walkers are invited to explore the breathtaking natural lands of Mt. Cuba Center on a one-of-a-kind course that winds through meadows and forests, along streams and ponds, and across the same scenic terrain that Mt. Cuba’s conservation team manages to restore and protect native habitats.
This isn’t your typical 5K—it’s a chance to experience the “wild side” of Mt. Cuba in motion.
Race Course
Participants will traverse 5K's of Mt. Cuba’s scenic trails—part of the 1,000-acre property dedicated to ecological restoration, environmental education, and scientific research. Unlike the manicured gardens, these trails showcase a “wilder” aesthetic that reflects the natural beauty and biodiversity of the regional landscape. Featuring sweeping meadows buzzing with pollinators, a restored pond, views of Appalachian Piedmont topography, an abundance of native trees and birdlife, Mt. Cuba’s collaboration with The American Chestnut Foundation and more, this is a truly unique way to support conservation and witness the work you're supporting with your run.
Note: The course includes variable surfaces such as grass, mulch, gravel, and dirt, with moderate hills and rolling terrain.

These values represent the 3-year monthly averages for November in Hockessin.
Hockessin, is a small, rapidly growing town in northern New Castle County, right on the border with Pennsylvania. Centered between two major highways, Route 7, or Limestone Road, and Route 41, Lancaster Pike, Hockessin offers a quiet reprieve for travelers and residents alike. The center of town is based mostly around small businesses; locally owned restaurants, salons, boutiques, and a smattering of other commercial establishments. A laid-back atmosphere, peaceful neighborhoods, and picturesque scenery all make Hockessin an extremely desirable place to live: its population grew by more than a third, to 13,500, between 1990 and 2010.
