WHINLATTER FOREST TRAIL RUNS

Challenge yourself among the peaks of the Lake District with the Whinlatter Trail Half Marathon & 10K on May 2nd, 2027. This trail race offers runners an unforgettable experience through the lush and rugged terrain of Whinlatter Forest.
The event kicks off early in the morning, with the half marathon starting at 9:50 AM followed by the 10K run just ten minutes later. Both races begin on the northern edge of the forest and conclude on its southern side, providing participants with a scenic journey through diverse landscapes.
Whinlatter Forest, nestled within the Lake District National Park, is renowned for its breathtaking views and challenging trails. The half marathon route stretches to 13.1 miles, featuring steep ascents and exhilarating descents that showcase the forest's dramatic elevation changes. Meanwhile, the 10K run covers a distance of 6.2 miles but still offers runners an invigorating adventure through varied terrain.
Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy panoramic vistas of Keswick, Skiddaw, and Derwentwater while navigating trails known for their firm paths and technical challenges. The forest is also home to extensive mountain bike tracks, adding another layer of excitement to this outdoor haven.
For those who wish to include their canine companions in the fun, Canicross runners are welcome with one dog per participant permitted on a lead throughout the race.
Upon crossing the finish line, all participants will be greeted with a bespoke Finisher’s Medal and wild deer-themed merchandise. Refreshments such as beer or soft drinks along with snacks await to help you refuel after your exertions.
To enhance the racing experience, Timing Up North provides live chip timing for accurate results in real-time. Additionally, runners have the option of purchasing a custom event T-shirt for £14 if they wish to commemorate their participation.
Subsidized parking is available on-site and can be paid for at Forestry England pay machines after completing your run.
