Welsh 3000’s Ultra Run

The Welsh 3,000s Ultra Run is a guided mountain endurance challenge scheduled for May 2, 2026, traversing all 15 peaks over 3,000 feet in Snowdonia (Eryri), North Wales. Unlike a traditional race, this event focuses on a supported group experience, led by qualified British Mountain Leaders and British Athletics coaches. The route covers approximately 48 km (30 miles) and involves a substantial 4,000 meters of total vertical gain, making it a premier test of mountain fitness and mental resilience.

The geography of the challenge spans three major mountain ranges: the Snowdon Massif, the Glyderau, and the Carneddau. Runners will navigate iconic and technical terrain, including the sharp, exposed ridge of Crib Goch and the rocky monolith of Tryfan. The route begins with the highest point in Wales, Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), at 1,085 meters, and concludes at Foel-fras. In early May, the Welsh mountains can be highly unpredictable; while lower elevations may enjoy mild spring temperatures around 12°C (54°F), the summits frequently experience high winds, mist, and temperatures near freezing, requiring participants to have robust mountain kits and experience in marathon-distance efforts.

Logistically, Adventure Awaits UK provides a comprehensive support package designed to maximize the chance of success. This includes professional navigation to eliminate the risk of getting lost, transport to and from the start/finish points, and a support vehicle equipped with food replenishments and hot snacks. Registration is handled via the SiEntries platform. Because of the technical nature of ridges like Crib Goch and the extreme vertical gain, the event is recommended for determined runners who have previously completed at least a marathon and are comfortable with steep, rocky terrain.
