The Wandering Wilderness Won-Hundred, set to take place on October 16, 2026, is an annual community ride through Lincoln's picturesque Wilderness Park. This beloved event celebrates the park’s extensive trail system with a spirit of camaraderie and shared appreciation for nature. Participants can choose between two routes: a challenging 100-mile journey made up of four approximately 25-mile laps, or a more moderate yet equally rewarding 100 km ride consisting of three roughly 20-mile loops. The route design is intentionally flexible to keep the experience fresh each year. Laps may be run in reverse order, form figure-eights, or venture into new areas within Wilderness Park and its surroundings. This variability ensures that every rider enjoys a unique adventure tailored by the event organizers on race day. No matter your riding level, everyone is welcome at this inclusive gathering. Whether you plan to tackle all laps, ride just one, or simply join for part of the journey, each participant will be recognized as "a wizard of wilderness" upon completion and offered a commemorative patch—a token of appreciation for contributing to the park's vibrant community. This year’s event also carries an added significance: proceeds from rider donations aim to support the Wilderness Park Expansion Project. Friends of Wilderness Park and their partner Solidago Conservancy are working together to secure additional floodplain land adjacent to the current park, enhancing its size and ecological value. By participating in this ride or making a donation directly through registration, you help bridge the $150,000 funding gap needed by year-end for this crucial expansion. Participants should gather at 7:00 AM at the Train Wreck Historical Marker located at the bottom of the GPTN Connector Bridge. Both rides will start promptly at 7:30 AM with sunrise occurring shortly after at around 7:42 AM, providing optimal lighting conditions to kick off your adventure. For parking, Densmore Park offers convenient spots near the baseball fields and is highly recommended for easy access to the starting point. The day unfolds with a series of laps that conclude in time for lunch breaks and socializing among fellow riders before heading back out onto the trails once more. Join us on October 16, 2026, as we come together to celebrate our love for Wilderness Park and contribute towards its future growth.
